Job Description

The University of Dubai invites applications for the position of Research Assistant at the MBRSC LAB, with employment commencing in October 2026.

The successful candidate should hold an MSc degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, GIS, Remote Sensing, or a closely related field, with demonstrated expertise in image processing, remote sensing, and Geospatial Information Systems (GIS).

The MBRSC LAB conducts multidisciplinary research in satellite and drone-based remote sensing, image processing, artificial intelligence, GIS, and geospatial applications. Further information about the laboratory and its research activities is available at: www.mbrsclab.ae

Key Requirements

  • Research experience: Demonstrated research experience with publication record, including the ability to conduct comprehensive literature reviews, analyze data, synthesize complex information, and prepare high-quality technical and scientific reports. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Remote sensing and GIS: Demonstrated experience in applying image processing, remote sensing, and GIS techniques to satellite, aerial, drone, and other geospatial datasets.
  • Programming and machine learning: Strong programming skills in Python; proficiency in MATLAB is desirable. Experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn is highly desirable.
  • AI and image analysis: Knowledge and practical experience in traditional machine learning and deep learning techniques for image classification, object detection, image segmentation, feature extraction, and geospatial data modelling.
  •  Remote sensing data processing: Experience in processing and analyzing diverse remote sensing datasets, including optical imagery, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), and drone/UAV imagery.
  • Software and tools: Experience with commercial and open-source image processing, data analysis, and GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), ENVI, ERDAS, eCognition, KNIME, WEKA, and Minitab, or equivalent platforms.
  •  Geospatial datasets: Ability to develop, manage, process, and analyze large and diverse remote sensing and geospatial datasets in support of multidisciplinary research projects.
  •  Geospatial products and visualization: Experience in developing geospatial products, technical reports, maps, dashboards, and visualizations using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), Portal configurable applications, and open-source GIS platforms.
  •  Research collaboration: Active participation in scientific conferences, research projects, publications, and collaborative research activities with academic, government, and industry partners.
  • Innovation and adaptability: Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to new research environments, and rapidly learn and apply emerging technologies, software tools, and research methodologies.
  •  Additional desirable skills: Experience with satellite image processing, UAV/drone data analysis, cloud-based geospatial platforms, spatial analysis, and the integration of artificial intelligence with remote sensing and GIS would be an advantage.
