Job Description
Position Overview:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead and contribute to advanced R&D on optoelectronic receiver hardware for a solar-powered optical wireless communication platform. The primary focus is the design, prototyping, and characterization of a dual-mode photodetector array, including the supporting front-end electronics and measurement workflows required to meet project milestones. The Fellow will work closely with the PI and project team, support integration with system-level prototypes, and provide technical mentorship to graduate research assistants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and prototype a dual-mode photodetector array suitable for optical wireless reception and energy-aware operation (as required by the project’s hardware work packages).
- Plan and execute electro-optical characterization, including responsivity, bandwidth, noise, dynamic range, linearity, saturation behavior, and temperature/aging sensitivity.
- Develop and validate receiver front-end circuitry (TIA/AFE), signal conditioning, and data acquisition procedures aligned with LiFi system requirements.
- Establish repeatable laboratory workflows: calibration, test protocols, measurement logs, and documentation to ensure reproducibility and traceability.
- Support system integration of the receiver chain into the prototype platform and collaborate with the AI/software team to enable hardware-aware adaptation (e.g., mode-selection hooks, measurement-driven tuning).
- Contribute to technical reporting and deliverables; publish in high-impact journals and present outcomes at reputable international conferences.
- Collaborate with academic/industry partners to align prototype decisions with real-world constraints and deployment considerations.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Optoelectronics, Optical Communications, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in photodetectors/optoelectronic devices, receiver design, and experimental characterization.
- Strong hands-on experience with lab instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, VNAs, optical sources, power meters, DAQ platforms) and measurement automation.
- Proficiency in data analysis and experimentation using Python and/or MATLAB; ability to maintain clean, version-controlled experimental scripts and datasets.
- Track record of publishing in reputable venues and working independently on complex experimental R&D.
- Strong communication and leadership skills for mentoring and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
