Job Description
The University of Dubai invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology. The successful candidate will provide visionary academic, research, and strategic leadership to advance excellence in teaching, research, innovation, accreditation, student recruitment, and external engagement.
The College of Engineering and Information Technology offers Bachelor’s programs in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, as well as Master’s programs in Data Science, Cyber Security, and Electrical Engineering. The College is planning to launch Ph.D. programs in the near future. It hosts well-established research and industrial laboratories supported by external funding and maintains a strong record of organizing IEEE-sponsored international conferences and professional events.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Academic Rank
- Full Professor in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
2. Education
- D. from a reputable and internationally recognized university.
3. Senior Academic Leadership Experience
- Proven experience in senior academic administration (e.g., Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chair, Program Chair, or equivalent), with demonstrated responsibility for academic programs, faculty and staff, strategic planning, and institutional governance.
4. Leadership, Strategic Planning, and Communication
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills, with the ability to lead strategic initiatives, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and engage effectively with faculty and staff, industry partners, Marketing and Admissions offices, and external stakeholders.
5. Accreditation and Quality Assurance
- Hands-on experience with academic accreditation and continuous quality improvement processes, such as ABET, CAA, or equivalent international accreditation frameworks.
6. Research Leadership and Scholarly Productivity
- An established record of research excellence, including high-impact publications in Scopus-indexed journals and conferences, a strong H-index, and demonstrated research leadership.
7. External Research Funding and International Collaboration
- Demonstrated success in securing and managing external research grants from national, regional, and/or international funding agencies, and in establishing sustainable research collaborations and strategic links with leading international universities and research institutions.
8. Graduate Supervision and Research Capacity Building
- A proven track record of supervising Master’s and Ph.D. students to successful completion and contributing to the development of graduate education and institutional research capacity.
9. Budgeting, Financial Management, and Laboratory Development
- Proven experience in budget planning, financial management, and resource allocation, including the establishment, upgrading, and management of advanced teaching and research laboratories and centers.
10. Faculty and Staff Recruitment and Appraisal
- Demonstrated experience in faculty and staff recruitment, including shortlisting, interviews, and appointment recommendations, as well as performance appraisal, evaluation, mentoring, and professional development.
11. Teaching Excellence and Academic Program Development
- A strong and well-documented teaching record at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including experience in designing, reviewing, and launching new academic programs.
12. Industry Engagement and External Partnerships
- Demonstrated experience in developing and sustaining partnerships with local, regional, and international industry to support education, applied research, innovation, and student employability.
13. Professional Engagement and Service
- Active involvement in professional bodies such as IEEE, including participation in technical committees, chapters, conferences, or leadership roles.
14. Conference and Scholarly Event Organization
- Demonstrated experience in organizing international or regional conferences, workshops, symposia, or scholarly events.
15. Student Recruitment, Marketing Collaboration, and Experiential Learning
- Demonstrated experience in student recruitment strategy and enrollment growth, working collaboratively with Marketing, Admissions, and Outreach offices to promote engineering and IT programs. This includes contribution to program positioning, branding, school and industry outreach, open days, articulation agreements, and international recruitment initiatives, as well as oversight of experiential learning activities such as internships, student competitions, hackathons, capstone projects, and engineering challenges at national or international levels to enhance student engagement and employability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for teaching, student recruitment, academic programs, research, innovation, accreditation, infrastructure, and human resources.
- Lead faculty and staff recruitment, performance evaluation, mentoring, and professional development.
- Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and the development of state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories.
- Promote excellence in teaching quality, student experience, retention, progression, and graduate employability.
- Lead and support student recruitment and enrollment growth strategies, in close coordination with Marketing and Admissions, through program differentiation, market analysis, outreach activities, and international recruitment initiatives.
- Strengthen industry engagement, external research funding, and international academic collaborations.
- Lead and sustain accreditation and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Act as the academic lead for the external promotion and market positioning of the College, representing engineering and information technology programs at student recruitment events, industry forums, school and community outreach activities, and national and international education exhibitions.
- Represent the College internally and externally at national and international academic, professional, and industry forums.
