Research Assistant – Legal Research on Law, Policy, and Challenges of the Metaverse
Job Description
Position Overview:
The University of Dubai is seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Research Assistant to support legal research in the broad area of “Law, Policy, and Challenges of the Metaverse in the UAE and Globally.” This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in law, legal studies, technology law, and digital governance, particularly in emerging virtual environments.
The selected candidate will contribute to scholarly research, policy analysis, and academic publications related to the regulation, governance, and legal challenges of the Metaverse. The role requires strong analytical skills, legal research proficiency, and the ability to synthesize complex regulatory frameworks across different jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth legal research on Metaverse-related laws, regulations, and policies in the UAE and internationally.
- Analyze legal challenges associated with the Metaverse, including data privacy, intellectual property, digital identity, and virtual transactions, ethical and jurisdictional issues.
- Assist in drafting research papers, policy briefs, and reports for academic publications and institutional purposes.
- Monitor developments in the legal and regulatory landscape related to virtual environments, Web3, blockchain, and AI governance.
- Collaborate with faculty members and research teams on interdisciplinary studies involving law, technology, and digital governance.
- Collect and organize relevant case laws, statutes, and scholarly materials.
- Support in organizing workshops, seminars, and conferences on legal issues related to the Metaverse.
- Assist in preparing presentations and academic reports for conferences and institutional stakeholders.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- A Master’s degree in Law, Legal Studies, or a related field with a focus on Technology Law, Digital Governance, Artificial Intelligence, or Cyber Law.
- Strong understanding of international and UAE legal frameworks related to digital spaces, virtual assets, blockchain, and emerging technologies.
- Proven experience in legal research, academic writing, and policy analysis.
- Familiarity with Metaverse-related governance issues, data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, UAE data regulations), virtual environments, and intellectual property issues.
- Excellent legal writing and communication skills in English (Arabic proficiency is an advantage).
- Ability to work independently, meet research deadlines, and contribute to academic discussions.
- Proficiency in using legal research databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw) and referencing tools.
